De Duitse kunstenares Eva Maria Schön heeft een speciale interesse voor de visuele aspecten van biochemische processen in water en licht. Enkele jaren geleden toonde zij haar microfotografische werken over water in en grachten en singels in het Natuurmuseum in Rotterdam)
Haar oorsprong ligt echter bij schilderen en performance.
In de videoloop 'Es Schwimmt' komen deze disciplines samen:
Eva Maria laat haar onderwater-videocamera hangend aan een touw de grens van water en lucht aftasten. Het ding draait en beweegt, en filmt daardoor soms de groezelige onderwaterscene van een stadswater, dan weer de omgeving die boven de waterspiegel zichtbaar is. Hetzelfde gebeurt met de registratie van het geluid.
Het resultaat is een wat knullige, rommelige, maar ook schilderachtige en poëtische collage van beeld en geluid.

German artist Eva Maria Schön has a special interest in the visual aspects of biochemical processes in water and light. Some years ago she showed her micro-photographic works about water in canals and moats in the Rotterdam Natural History Museum.
Her artistic roots however are in painting and performance.
In the video loop 'Es Schwimmt' these disciplines join very well together:
Hanging on a rope her underwater video camera registrates the world under and above the water surface of canals in Berlin and other cities.
The camera moves and turns and sometimes shows the dinghy underwater scene, and other times the surrounding above it. The same happens with the sounds.
It results in a collage of image and sound, which is a bit messy and clumsy, but also picturesque and poetic.
