Mels van Zutphen : Toreinfahrt : 2010

Toreinfahrt was Mels' contribution for the project KIMM in 2010.
The very simple concept of gradually zooming in into the entrance-tunnels of typical Berlin apartment blocks turned out to create a strong architectural movement in the space of Sub Urban Video Lounge. It is like a cinematographic installation, which is in fact not far from Mels's earlier works with objects and film projections.
But it is also film, due to the effects used by the artist in order to create the experience of moving through the tunnel: the zoom and the sounds create the feeling that we are moving while the building stays in its place.
