Olympische Schlagkraft : Kim Zieschang / Mels van Zutphen : 2006

Since 1998 performance artist Kim Zieschang has been working around a cycle called: 'Frauleinmaschinen / Les Machines Mademoiselles'.
In 'Olymische Schlagkraft' she conducts a group of 9 German secretaries who are typing repetitive words resulting in a strictly organized percussive sound piece.
The work can be seen as an evocation of an époque of typewriters, the sounds of mechanical devices, including a whole culture around  the physical aspects of operating them.
This ritualistic aspect could as well be the reason why Kim is using a deformed voice-over with texts taken from Bram Stoker's Dracula…..
Rotterdam film/video artist Mels van Zutphen made a 24 minute resume of the 60 minute performance in Bochum.
