SOMEWHERE ELSE

ANITA GROENER : SOMEWHERE ELSE : 2011 : ANIMATED DRAWING

Anita Groener is a Dutch artist who lives since many years in Dublin. Over the years her painting turned gradually from color into black and white, and from canvas to paper. Due to the fact that movement and vibration have always been main subjects in her work, animation is a logical and important step in her artistic development.
Somewhere Else has become a project of a digitally animated drawing that started in 2009 and is evolving over time. The presentation in Sub Urban Video Lounge is a recent edit. ( www.anitagroener.com )

Anita Groener’s work explores questions around the dual perspectives of home and displacement within modern geopolitical realities. The dichotomy between abstraction and representation inherent in Groener’s practice is considered and manifested in the language, economies and strategies of drawing and it’s expanded field. Somewhere Else, an animated drawing comprises the rupturing and corruption of two cell like systems moving towards each other, inciting a visual and conceptual experience of containment. The configuration becomes a structure to explore realities of intolerance, both at a local level and globally, resulting in work that focuses on the impact this has on the individual.
